Ladder to the Divine

Scripture: "16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” 17 He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven."

Genesis 28: 16-17

After listening to Rev. Tom's message, "Persistent Faith", I found myself pondering the story of Jacob's ladder. I discovered many interesting interpretations of Jacob's dream. Perhaps the one that resounded within me was the image representing the divine connection between God and the earthly realm... reminding us we have already received God's grace, and to be encouraged.

So many uplifting descriptions -

... A Bridge between Heaven and Earth

The original "Stairway to Heaven" !

For me, the visual image represented in a wealth of paintings (check them out!) reinforces there is a path forward, no matter how arduous the road. In many of the visual representations, the movement is not always upward, sometimes it is downward. Persistence of faith. Required.

We have persevered in gathering with one another, deepening our faith and covenantal relationship. I pray our moments of fear or despair be transient as we begin each day, each moment.

March on. Climb upward.
